Tins and the Environment

We are pleased to say that tin is the most environmentally friendly form of mass produced packaging. Firstly, it is seldom realised that 99.75% of every tin is not tin at all but iron and iron is planet earth's most common metal – indeed the earth’s core is made of it. Tin box makers use a great deal of iron; we are the third largest user after motor cars and the building industry. However, because of magnetism the recovery and recycling of the humble tin can is by far the most recycled product in the world today. The tins we sell are made of up to 60% recycled steel. Even when not recycled the humble tin is biodegradable.

It is also true to say that most of our tin boxes are 'recycled' long before they reach the scrap heap. In fact our research has shown that consumers buy the tin for its potential after use rather than primarily buying the tin for its contents.

It is normal practice to discard packaging after use, but not so with the tin box. Tins last a life-time.
